Nothing Brings more Joy to a Home than a Bouquet of Flowers. The first step in planning a bouquet is to decide where it will be displayed, and what flowers are appropriate for the Season.

Spring
Camellias, quince, daffodils, poppies, anemones, pansies, tulips, hydrangea, lilacs, peonies, delphiniums, jasmine... Color everywhere, especially bright green.

What Isn't a Vase?
Anything that holds water... be imaginative. The sturdier the container, the wider the bouquet can be. Add your largest flowers first; add sprays and spikes last.

Summer
Roses... white dogwood, laurel, zinnias, daisies, sunflowers, geraniums, Queen Ann's lace, black-eyed Susans, cosmos, monarda, marigolds, nasturtiums.

Florist Secret?
Any flower with milky juice in the stems will last longer if you sear the cut stem with a flame or boiling water.

Autumn
Dormant branches, Fall-tinged hydrangeas, apples, pears, figs, nuts, pomegranates, grapes, nuts, dahlias, chrysanthemums, pumpkins, gourds, yarrow, sedum.

Branches to Force
Quince, apple, cherry, forsythia.
Cut fat branches on a slant and immediately put bare twig into tepid water. Bring them into the coolest spot in the house, 58 degrees is ideal. They will bloom in a week to a month, depending on variety. Keep water clean and branches fully immersed.

Winter
Evergreen boughs, red dianthus, hollyhock, ranunculus, baskets of pinecones, little lights everywhere, baby's breath, amaryllis, candles, lemon branches, forced bulbs, azaleas, cascading ivies, red gerber daisies, red roses.
